The Magic Thief

This is the first book in the SPS series. When we first meet Pepper, the biggest excitement in her life is pet-sitting a magic turtle and a parrot who is smarter than most people. Up until now, Pepper’s childhood has been easy and fun. As someone begins stealing magic from the animals, Pepper, and her best friend Luna, begin a magical hunt for the thief. It doesn’t take long though, before the thief is hunting them!

The Curse

When we last left Pepper, she had just escaped the horrible witch, Kale. Her survival wouldn’t have been possible without the help of the werewolves. When Pepper realizes the werewolves are victims of an ancient curse, she decides to find a way to break the curse. She shows her family (and us) that friendship and loyalty mean not running away when things get difficult.

Why are there so many animals in my books?

As Mahatma Gandhi said, "The greatness of a nation and its moral progress can be judged by the way its animals are treated."

Animals have been with me at every stage of my life, from my childhood hamster (Sneakers), to the dogs who sleep with me every night. My hope is, by showing animals throughout my books, we will all be reminded to treat animals of every shape and size with kindness and respect. Volunteer at a shelter today - you won’t regret it!

How to help your family get involved with helping animals

1

Volunteer at a local animal shelter or rescue. Whether it’s walking dogs or playing with kittens, the interaction is rewarding for both animals and people. If your family has a special activity you enjoy doing together, think about how you can incorporate that into a benefit for the shelter. For example, if your child likes to paint, what about painting a mural at the shelter?

2

Fund raising: Designate a small percentage of income from a bake sale, lemonade stand, or babysitting job to go to your favorite rescue or shelter.

3

Volunteer at local rescue adoption days: These are usually held at pet stores like Petsmart. Kids make a happy addition as they greet potential adopters.

4

Educate others: Your child can be a powerful advocate and educator themselves. As they model safety and respect of animals, others will learn from them.

5

Be a role model yourself: If you are kind to animals, volunteer, fund raise and educate others yourself, your children will learn from you.
